Celebrating The Feast“And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem ... And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles” (Zechariah 14:8,16).“Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand ... In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, ‘If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water’ ” (John 7:2,37).When Christ returns to rule the earth, the one ancient feast God will require all nations to celebrate is the Feast of Tabernacles. As outlined in Leviticus 23 and Deuteronomy 16, it was one of three feasts that all Jewish males were commanded to come to Jerusalem to celebrate every year, and not with empty hands (Dt. 16:16). By the time Jesus walked the earth, these feasts had turned into “the Jews’ feasts,” and were empty of love to man or God. It was in the last day, “that great day of the feast” of tabernacles, that Jesus stood and cried, “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink” (Jn. 7:37). It is appropriate that at this feast Christ made this offer, because He desired the love of God to be “shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Rom. 5:5). In a future day He will cause Jerusalem to be the center of blessing for all the world. Until then, Christ’s blessing of the Gospel would flow out from the heart of individuals who trust in Him.
