Should We Keep Christ In Christmas?
Christmas is a joyful reminder that the Christ child came into our world to save sinners. Some are concerned that in our ever-increasing materialism we may “X” Christ out, thereby losing the spiritual meaning of X-mas.
But even keeping Christ in Christmas – in our cards, our comments and our thoughts – is not the solution. The Bible says, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone” (Heb. 2:9 NIV).
It is an historical fact that this Bible verse is true. God became man and entered this world as a babe born of the virgin Mary. Then He lived a perfect, sinless life, died on the cross to atone for our sins, and rose from the dead. The Bible says that He is now exalted at “the right hand of the Majesty in heaven” (Heb. 1:3). It also says that “God exalted Him to His own right hand as Prince and Savior that He might give repentance and forgiveness of sins” (Acts 5:31).
At Christmas it is good for us to be reminded how Christ came into this world. It is better for us to be reminded where Christ is now – glorified in heaven, and coming again soon to judge the living and the dead. But it is best for us to confess our sins and trust Him as our personal Savior. Then we can keep Christ in our hearts through faith (Eph. 3:17), and exalt Him in our lives as Savior and Lord throughout the year. This is the place the Christ child deserves and desires from all who follow Him.
