A Unique Birth
We all probably know of at least one story about an uncommon pregnancy or birth. A mother giving birth when driving to a hospital is such an example.
The things recorded in Scripture as to the birth of the Lord Jesus exceed all of our stories, because the person being born was God Himself (Mt. 1:23). The One who created man became Man. He who is eternal was found in time. God, who is spirit, took on flesh. The purpose of His coming was announced before His birth, not only the days prior but hundreds of years earlier. And, was any other birth proclaimed by a heavenly host, or baby tied with a star seen by others many, many miles away?
When we think of the birth of a child we consider its length and weight, who the parents are, where it took place and other details. Such factors often influence the child’s welfare as he or she grows up. However, we recognize the various things in connection to the birth of the Lord Jesus were ordained, or arranged, by God beforehand to speak to us about who He is and what He would do. All was for His glory.
Truly, God desires that all births and lives would be fully to His honor and glory. A pregnancy resulting from the joining together of a man and his wife (Gen. 2:24) is nothing less than a miracle. Children themselves are blessings from God (Ps. 127:3). Parents are instructed to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4). Yet, the birth of the Lord Jesus was exceedingly unique, and we will consider a number of points in the pages that follow.
Much of the world celebrates Christ’s birth at this time of year, although the real date is uncertain. That characteristic – uncertainty – does not need to be part of your life regarding the things of God. Do you know, for example, that if you died an hour from now you would go to heaven? There is no need to have doubts about that matter. If you have not accepted God’s offer of salvation, you can do so right now and become a new creature in Christ. You can be born again – another birth of unique qualities! “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31 NKJV). This statement, given by God, leaves no room for uncertainty. Commit your life to Him today! We can tell you how.
