Worse Than Fatal
Worse Than FatalMany are curious today about the future so they read horoscopes and consult psychics and spiritualists. How many times have you wondered about what the future will bring into your life? Many are curious today about the future so they read horoscopes and consult psychics and spiritualists. Unfortunately, men fail to look where the future is clearly foretold – in the Bible, especially in the last book, called The Revelation. This book may not foretell the specific details of life, but it clearly tells about what is most important. God told the apostle John to write about things that would occur in the future (Rev. 1:19). A promise is given that all who read and keep the message of The Revelation will be blessed (Rev. 1:3). Many complain that this book is full of symbols and too difficult to understand. Yet even a quick reading reveals some very terrible things that will happen to this world and the people alive at the time, and that there will be a final judgment of people and their works. The last three chapters tell us that the reward for believers will be eternal bliss, while the punishment of others will be separation from God in a place of torment forever – in the lake of fire. But many people ignore the Bible. Perhaps you are one of them. Remember, the Bible is God’s Word; He does not lie. Be assured, The Revelation is true and will come to pass. Consider another warning of judgment. In the beginning all was perfect. There was harmony between God and man, but sin came in when Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit. Within ten generations sin spread so much that God was sorry that He had ever created man, and pronounced a judgment of destruction. He sent a flood that covered the entire earth and destroyed all men. But before doing so, He told Noah, a just man, to construct a large boat. Noah warned others, but they rejected his preaching. Noah and his family, eight in all, were the only ones saved. Some time later, God forewarned Lot, a righteous man, of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot warned others but they thought he was joking. God led Lot and his family to safety just before destroying those cities. Many years later, God sent His prophet Jonah to the wicked city of Nineveh. Jonah warned Nineveh that God was going to destroy the city. Its inhabitants took the warning seriously and repented, seeking God’s forgiveness. He did forgive and the promised destruction did not occur. The coming destruction, foretold in the end of the Bible, will occur just as it did in the times of Noah and Lot. But God does not want any to perish (2 Pet. 3:9). That’s why He warned us and also gave His Son, Jesus, so that all who accept Him can be saved: “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16 nkjv). In Jonah’s time, when the people of Nineveh repented, God forgave them (Jon. 3:10). So too today, if you repent and believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, you will be forgiven, and heaven bound. But be warned: “He who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on Him” (Jn. 3:36). Many today scoff at such thoughts, just as they did in the days of Noah and Lot. Listen to what God says: “Because you disdained all my counsel ... your destruction comes like a whirlwind” (Prov. 1:25-27). What about you? If you want to be saved from wrath and go to heaven, repent and ask Jesus to be your Savior. To not do so is worse than fatal. By Albert Blok
