But Have You Heard It?
But Have You Heard It?
“Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear?”Mark 8:18 NIV
I recently read an article that called America a “gospel-saturated nation.” It said that everyone in America has easy access to the good news of salvation through preaching on radio, TV and in churches. Something was missing from that article, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
The next day, at a men’s Bible study, it came to me. As we discussed Mark 8:18, one man said that for years, even though he had two good ears, he just wasn’t hearing spiritual things. Although he was raised in a Christian home and regularly attended church, youth group and Bible camps, it wasn’t until a stranger handed him a Bible tract entitled “What Saves?” that he began to question his eternal state. The world around may have been saturated with the gospel, but only now was it sinking in!
When he asked his parents, they said, “Of course you’re saved. We’re a Christian family.” His pastor said, “If you’re in my congregation, you’re saved.” But in spite of these assurances, he knew he wasn’t saved because he had never personally viewed himself as dead in sin and had never asked Christ to save him. All those years, his ears had tuned out God!
When I heard this, I knew what was wrong with that article. It assumed that since the good news was so readily available it was also being listened to. But its availability is no guarantee that it is being applied personally. Just because your church, parents, friends and activities are Christian doesn’t mean you are. The only thing that makes you a Christian, that saves you from hell, is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you want to get into that relationship now, contact us. We’d like to help.
