Stephen: a Servant Looking Up
STEPHEN
A Servant Looking UpFrom Acts 6-7
When Stephen gave his life to God, and shut the world out,
The Holy Spirit filled him up and made him more devout.
He proved that Jesus Christ was Lord with miracles galore,
Which made the enemies of Christ confront him more and more. When they could not resist his words, they dragged him off to court,
Procuring lying witnesses to give a false report;
But he reminded them of what their heritage had been,
And how their treatment of the Lord had added to their sin.And when they gnashed their teeth at him he looked beyond their hate,
And saw the Son of God arise to watch from heaven’s gate.
He bade them look upon the Lord, but they just plugged their ears,
And dragged him to the city gate, as in the former years.They pelted him with heavy stones and knocked him to his knees;
He pled forgiveness for their sins while they despised his pleas.
He died a martyr for the Lord – the prototype for all,
Who sacrifice their lives to God in answer to His call.Lord, help me be a sacrifice acceptable to You;
Become the Lord of all I have, and everything I do;
And lift my gaze above my trials until my soul can see
That vision of Your holy eyes fixed lovingly on me.By Bud Morris
