God Remembers. Shouldn’t We?
God Remembers. Shouldn’t We?
“God remembered Noah, and every living thing ... with him in the ark.” Genesis 8:1
“God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out ... when He overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.” Genesis 19:29
“God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.” Genesis 30:22
God remembers His people, whether on the grand earthly scale as with Noah, or on a more local scale as with Abraham, or on a personal scale as with Rachel. God remembers us, for “it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not” (Lam. 3:22). He remembers that we are but dust and can by no means redeem ourselves.
Because of this, He demonstrated His remembrance of us to the ultimate at the cross of Christ, His Son. It is because of the cross that God can now say, “their sins and iniquities will I remember no more” (Heb. 10:17). When we come together, should it not be primarily to remember Him as He requested? “This do in remembrance of me” (Lk. 22:19).

“This do, remember Me” – O blessed, living Lord,
What depths of grace we now can trace in that most precious word!
Now gathered round Thyself, with heart and conscience free,
O Lord, once dead, our living Head, we do remember Thee! By James G. Deck
