What Love Is This?
What Love Is This“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
What love is this that living Love should give His Only Son in sacrifice to save Those whom the law demanded should not live – The Devil’s sons and sin’s obedient slaves! Herein is love, for we did not love God But wasted precious hours on self and sin, We scorned the threat of Heaven’s corrective rod And disavowed His judgment with a grin.
What love is this that God should smite His Son With sorest stripes that miscreants be healed, That He should die for wrongs which we have done That we by God’s good Spirit might be sealed! For God so loved the world that we receive The gifts of life eternal, full and free, When trusting Christ as Savior we believe He bore our sins when hanging on the tree.
What love is this that God has made the way To Paradise so effortless and sure, The gift of God without a mite to pay Eternal life, immutably secure! Too costly for the wealthy to procure Too safe for wasteful prodigals to lose Too precious to be loaned out to the poor Too strong for thieving spoilers to abuse.
What love is this, so freely shown to all That whosoever trusts in Christ who died Can never perish, for He came to call All who believe to be His spotless bride! Christ loved us unto death but rose again The sinner’s Friend and only way to Heaven. For on the cross He suffered boundless pain That we should live eternally forgiven.
What love is this that any should resist! But if God did not spare His sinless Son What will He do to sinners who persist In unrepentant unbelief, undone? Though God the Father loved the sinner so He will not shrink from judgment on the day When justice calls for unremitting woe. Then cry to God who saves without delay!By Tom Summerhill
