Consider This For The New Year
With a new year just beginning, may I suggest three very important things to consider. In Philippians 3:10-14, the Apostle Paul dealt with time in three tenses – the past, the future and the present.
Regarding the past, Paul says we should be “forgetting those things which are behind.” Regarding the future, he says we should be “reaching forth unto those things which are before.” And about the present he tells us to “press toward the mark.”
It’s important to reflect upon, but not live in the past. It’s equally important to prepare for the future, but not to attempt to live tomorrow today. Each day is God’s gift to us, and it may be the last one we will ever have. Therefore, we must learn to live life one day at a time.
Psalm 118:24 declares, “This is the day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” May God enable you to rejoice in each new day He graciously gives you.
A good word to help us with the past is “gratitude.” A good word to help us with the future is “trust.” And a good word to help us with the present is “faithfulness.”
Someone has well said that “life by the yard is hard, but life by the inch is a cinch!”
