How To Have A Happy New Year
How To Have A Happy New Year
Everyone wishes for a happy new year. We all want one, but wishing won’t make it happen. We must do something. It’s been said there are three things needed for happiness: someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for.
Someone To Love
It’s easy to love someone who loves us. It’s great to be told that we are loved. It’s a real joy to express our feelings to those we care for. There’s someone who loved us when we were unlovely, unrepentant sinners. It was God! He loved us so much that He gave His Son Jesus to be our Savior (Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:8). We all need to be saved from sin. Christ did this when He died on the cross to redeem us (Eph. 1:7). When we realize this we can say that “we love Him because He first loved us” (1 Jn. 4:19 NIV).
Something To Do
The Bible says we can’t work for our salvation: “It is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast” (Eph. 2:8-9). But once we’re saved, there’s a lot we can do to please God (2 Cor. 5:15). He wants us to love one another as He has loved us (Jn. 13:34). He wants us to tell others about His saving grace (Mk. 16:15). He wants us to “do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Gal. 6:10). Finally, He wants us to read the Bible so we can grow spiritually (1 Pet. 2:2).
Something To Hope For
We know time passes faster if we’re looking forward to something. Christians have the best event to look forward to – Christ’s return to take us to heaven. He said, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am” (Jn. 14:3).
It’s useless to wish for a happy new year without doing something about it. If we do these things, we’ll be assured of a truly happy new year. Would you like to become a Christian by trusting Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin? We can tell you how.
