Somebody’s Watching!
Somebody’s Watching!
The news reported the unusual case of a Brazilian businessman traveling in Germany. A security system at his vacation house detected a break-in and sent an alert to his mobile phone. The businessman then used the Internet to view live images from security cameras in the house, actually watching the burglar rob him. He called his wife in Brazil, she called the police, and the thief was apprehended by officers who knew exactly where he was in the house when they arrived. The man was arrested while trying on the owner’s clothes! Who could imagine that the owner would be watching from half a world away?
The Bible makes it clear that God is watching too: “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good” (Prov. 15:3 NKJV). This statement shows God’s omnipresence and omniscience: He is everywhere and knows everything. We usually try to hide our sinful actions from others, just as the Brazilian burglar did. He thought he was all alone in that house. But even the darkness of night is like the brightness of noontime to God (Ps. 139:11-12). Nothing is hidden from Him.
God says, “Be sure your sin will find you out” (Num. 32:23). The wrong we do will eventually be exposed, and we’ll be exposed as the sinners we are. God’s never-ending watchfulness should be unsettling to sinners, and His perfect standard of righteousness demands that no sin be permitted in heaven.
But there’s another side to God’s watchfulness – the amazing interest God has in each of us. His love for us is beyond compare. Rather than sending the police to apprehend us, He sent the Savior to deliver us from our sinful ways. His salvation is for all who accept it, and it is full and complete. God is fully satisfied by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Will you confess your sins? He already knows where you are, and hears your prayer.
