Boldness To Enter Where God Dwells
Having therefore, brethren, boldness for entering into the holy of holies by the blood of Jesus, the new and living way ... —Hebrews 10:19-20 JND
The writer of this beautiful epistle draws an incredible and immense conclusion: “Having therefore boldness” to enter into that place where God dwells and to be found in His presence. We are encouraged to draw near, and it is our God who wants us to be there.
The reason for this has been given in the previous verses of the chapter. It is God’s will that we be sanctified, or set apart, for Him. That was done through the offering of the body of Christ once for all (v.10). From all eternity it was the will of God to have us with Him. He purposed us for blessing in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Man has tried to come into favor with God. Yet, in all these efforts he always failed, because no one was ever able to reach God’s standards. It is most blessed when a soul comes under conviction of his sinful condition and his distance from God. Help from the outside is needed. God gave the means by which we can be sanctified and brought into a position where we can enter in with boldness.
All the Jewish sacrifices and rituals could never establish that. In great detail the writer of this epistle shows this in the previous chapters of Hebrews. Now, in Hebrews 10, the sacrifice and the blood of the Lord Jesus, His Son, are put forward. It is because of the shed blood of the Man Christ Jesus that God is completely satisfied. All those who have put their trust in Him may avail themselves of that way, which is new and living, and come into God’s presence.
What is our occupation at that place? It is certainly not to rehearse our sinful condition and what we once were. Instead, it is our blessed privilege to be occupied with the Lord Himself. We may speak to God, now our Father through faith in the Lord Jesus, about the beauties and glories we see in Him, and return to Him what He has first given to us. Brethren, let us use this holy boldness and glorify Him who gave Himself for us, for the Father seeks worshipers.
