What Excitement!
What can match the thrill of the fisherman seeing his prize erupt from the water, hook in mouth!
Jesus Christ was involved with several commercial fishermen in His first-century inner circle. They fished with nets for wholesale quantities.
One day Jesus went fishing with one of them named Peter, who had just spent all night fishing but caught nothing. Yet, out of respect for Jesus, he bit his pessimistic tongue and got back into the boat. Well, they caught so many fish their nets began to tear! His partners came to help in another boat, and both boats began sinking under the load!
In that moment Peter realized Jesus was the Creator of the fish, and of everything else – including Peter himself! Falling to his knees, Peter cried out, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” Jesus said to him, “Don’t be afraid,” indicating that He had forgiven Peter (Lk. 5:8,10). Under the impact of the experience and their discovery of the Savior who could forgive sins, Peter and his colleagues left everything and followed Jesus.
And you? Have you ever found yourself in Jesus’ presence and felt the guilt of your sins like Peter? Have you confessed to Him your sinfulness and your unworthiness to be in His company? If you have, sincerely and in faith, Jesus has also forgiven you, and said, “Don’t be afraid.”
And if you haven’t, why not now? We can show you how! He came looking for you to offer you the same forgiveness and liberty, dying for your guilt on the cross. And He says, “Whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life” (Jn. 5:24).
