Be Like The Rock Badger
“The rocks form a refuge for rock badgers.” Psalm 104:18 NLT
“Rock badgers — they aren’t powerful, but they make their homes among the rocky cliffs.” Proverbs 30:26
Rock badgers are rabbit-like animals that make their hiding places among the rocks. Why? Because God has instilled in them not only a keen awareness of their enemies, but also the instinct to hide in places where their enemies cannot prey upon them and destroy them. Likewise, God has placed in born-again believers a good, healthy fear of the enemy that can harm them spiritually.
Like the rock badger’s enemy, our enemy, Satan, is fast and sneaky and able to easily overtake us. But in His infinite wisdom, God has built into us the means of escape from our enemy, and it’s the same as the rock badger’s. We are always found close to the rock. When pursued, we too escape to the rock. When threatened, we hide in the rock. When attacked, the rock protects us.
While our enemy is far greater than any that the rock badger faces, our refuge is also far greater. While the Devil, our great enemy, “prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour” (1 Pet. 5:8), we are assured, no less than ten times in the Psalms, that the Lord is the “rock” of our refuge, the “rock” of our salvation (Ps. 18, 31, 62, 71, 94, 95). How great is that! We have the safest of all hiding places – our Rock is the Lord!
Do you know Jesus as “the Son of the living God” – your Rock of protection against “all the powers of hell” (Mt. 16:16-18)? If not, I urge you to be like the rock badgers and flee to that Rock which is Christ (1 Cor. 10:4). He will protect you from all danger for all etemity.
