Providing Food For The Family Of God
Since this month’s Feature articles are devoted to the Christian’s response to the needs of the poor, I’d like to share with you how Grace & Truth has been devoted to responding to the spiritual hunger of the poor with food for the family of God.
When E. C. Hadley was a missionary in Mali, West Africa he became aware of the great need for printed material to help third-world evangelists spread the Good News to the lost. In 1931, when he left the mission field due to illness, he and his wife began printing gospel tracts with a small press on his kitchen table. Today G&T prints tracts in 12 languages and ships over 25 million of them yearly to evangelists around the world. The workers at G&T like to think of each tract given out as a “seed” sown to bear fruit for God (Lk. 8:11,15).
In 1933, Hadley began printingGrace & Truth Magazine as a discipleship tool to provide spiritual food for those who had responded to the Gospel. Now in its 78th year of continuous publication, the magazine is sent monthly to readers in 80 countries who desire to grow in their understanding of God’s Word. From its beginning the magazine was referred to as “food for the family of God” – with articles ranging from “milk” to “meat” (1 Pet 2:2; Heb. 5:12-14).
Those who regularly read our Response column (pg. 36) learn where our readers come from and how much they appreciate this spiritual food. Turn to it and you’ll find that this month’s responses come from eight countries on three continents. You’ll also discover that reading our magazine helps them to grow in their relationship with God and help others do the same.
We rely totally on freewill gifts to support our ministry of providing spiritual food to anyone who asks for it – especially those who can’t afford it. We want to help all God’s family be well fed!
