Our Burden Bearer

Our Burden Bearer
We have trusted in the Lord as our sin bearer and have proved His power in lifting the burden of guilt from our heavily laden souls, but do we realize that He wants us to trust Him just as much and prove Him as fully to be our burden bearer? Being the burden bearer is a ministry of His love that is going on constantly. He does not wait until our burden becomes so heavy that we fall beneath it; He feels each little weight as it accumulates upon our minds. The difficulties and anxieties that we experience each day make up the burden that Jesus bears. He knows and feels our weakness, for He is “touched with the feeling of our infirmities” (Heb. 4:15 KJV ). Therefore, in the power of divine compassion He stoops to take the weight of our interests upon His own shoulders.
He daily bears our burden, yet He bids us cast our burden upon Him (Ps. 55:22). Why? It is because we are no better off having the burden bearer walking by our side if we continue to hug our bundle of worry. However, we must be careful not to “cast our burden on the Lord” only in circumstances of dire distress. Our great Burden Bearer would have us roll upon Him all the little things that perplex us, ruffle us, or mar our enjoyment of His peace. If we avail ourselves of the privilege of welcoming our Lord Jesus into all the lights and shadows of our everyday life, we will become blessedly conscious of the fact that He “daily bears our burden.” Our eyes will be opened to see many of His lovingkindnesses and answers to our prayers which we would otherwise not have noticed. May we allow Him to lead us into this joy.
“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden” (Ps. 68:19 NASB).
