Act Wisely In His Wisdom
We want to know how to rightly act in situations we face. Real and true wisdom is only found through the Lord Jesus. Proverbs 9:10 ( NKJV ) tells us, “The fear of the L ORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Such wisdom is only given to believers! If you are not born again, admit your sinful condition and need of the Savior, and put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ now. Then you too can receive the wisdom from above to meet your needs here.
Daniel, possibly only a teenager, was a captive in an ungodly land and forced into very trying situations. Yet, he feared the LORD and sought to live in obedience to Him. God gave him and his friends “knowledge and skill in all ... wisdom” (Dan. 1:17). The king even recognized these four men were different. “In all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm” (v.20).
King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and demanded the wise men to tell him not only its interpretation but also the dream itself. Under the threat of death, the ungodly ones admitted “not a man on earth” could do this, “except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh” (2:10-11). However, Daniel acted “with counsel [discretion, nasb] and wisdom” (v.14) requesting time for prayer.
God revealed the dream and its interpretation to Daniel. In thanksgiving he said, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him. I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of You” (vv.20-23).
Daniel then revealed to Nebuchadnezzar what he sought. Hearing the dream and its interpretation, the king said to Daniel, “Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret” (v.47). God was praised. He gives wisdom and discretion – all things – for His glory. May we act wisely in His wisdom, giving Him glory and praise!
