Tbe Saving Power Of Blood
A SPECIAL EASTER MESSAGEA Doctor Reports From Kenya:
The Saving Power Of Blood Recently, I had the opportunity to see the life-saving power of blood during an intense burst of need at the hospital in Kijabe, Kenya. Emergency Needs
First, we delivered premature twins who both required a blood transfusion because of a mismatch between their blood and their mother’s. They developed low blood counts and accumulated a toxic chemical in their bloodstream, which they could not clear. This was followed by the admission of a young AIDS patient with a low red blood cell count and extremely low platelets (7,000 instead of a normal of 140,000). Then in the early evening an 11 year-old Maasai girl arrived after being bitten by a venomous puff adder. Her blood was not clotting and we opted for a blood transfusion and observation instead of using our only dose of anti-venom. Finally, in the early morning hours, I was called to the operating room by an intern. A patient he had just delivered by cesarean section was continuing to hemorrhage from her womb. We were forced to remove her womb to save her life. She was very close to death and again required multiple blood transfusions. Emergency Supply
Here in Kenya, when there is an emergency need for blood, it requires calling upon donors to immediately fill that need by giving blood. In the above cases, several of the doctors, their wives, the nurses and the local missionary teachers gave their blood. I am delighted to report that all of the above patients are alive and recovering. The key to life in all these patients’ cases was the precious gift of a donor’s blood, because the patient could not produce more of their own. Without a transfusion, life would not have been possible. Our Need
And it is similar for the Christian. Hebrews 9:22 tells us that without the shedding of the blood of Jesus, we could not have our sins forgiven and be reconciled to our Creator God. It was the precious donation of the blood of Christ, the very Son of God, that infuses us with life eternal. For the patients mentioned here, freely-donated blood was the only way to save their lives. And so it is with each of us in God’s sight. Fortunately, the Donor has been found, and the Supreme Gift has been given. Jesus Christ shed His blood so that we might receive abundant life, being reconciled to God in this life and having the promise of life everlasting in the next. God’s Supply
The saving power of human blood is truly amazing. But the power of Christ’s blood is even more so: “In him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment - to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ” (Eph. 1: 7-10 NIV). Please let the blood of Jesus save you!
