The Problem With Patty
The Problem With Patty
What a girl! As she entered the room all heads turned. How beautiful! But Patty was not just another pretty face. She was also intelligent. She never studied but still got good grades. And her personality! Whether you were popular or unpopular, Patty had a place in her life for you.
There was no end to her charm, until one day ... Her car was hit broadside. When they pulled her out, the once lively Patty was lifeless – dead on arrival at the hospital. It seemed so unfair! One moment she had the world in her hands, and the next she was gone.
I’m sure when she left that morning she thought she’d see her parents again – but never did. Life’s so precious – yet we never consider how short it is. We forget that we don’t own our next breath. As precious as life is, it can end in an instant – just like Patty’s.
What then? Patty’s problem was that she never made plans for what comes after death. I don’t mean a will or life insurance; I mean making sure where she’d spend eternity. She neglected to secure the most important life we can have – eternal life in heaven. God offers us a gift more valuable than this life. It’s a life in heaven with His Son, Jesus.
But Jesus had to die to open the way for us to heaven. Just as we forget how short life is, we also forget the most wonderful gift of all – new life in Christ. But the Bible says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). The bad news is that “the wages of sin is death.” But the good news is that “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 6:23).
What now? How can we not accept this wonderful gift? Don’t be like Patty – full of life but clueless about eternity. Plan now. You never know when you may enter it! Remember the greatest gift of all, and be assured of the most wonderful future money can’t buy. Give your life to Jesus now. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9).
