Nations Have Doomsday Plans. Do You?

In 1989, a U.S. News & World Report cover story began with these words superimposed on a mushroom cloud: “America’s Doomsday Project: The USA has a secret survival plan in the event of nuclear war, but will it work?” Today, the USA (and every other world power) has an elaborate plan to maintain the Continuity Of Government (COG) during an enemy attack. But now the greatest fear is of terrorist attack, not nuclear.

The most interesting part of today’s COG is still known as “kneecap,” the nickname for the “National Emergency Airborne Command Post.” After terrorists crashed planes into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, and had another headed for the Capitol, “kneecap” put President Bush and his key advisors into the air for most of the day on 9-11-01, to keep the government running until the danger on earth had passed. But critics in ’89 and again in ’01 said “kneecap” was seriously flawed and not “fail-safe.”

This leads us to ask some serious questions about doomsday. Are you afraid of another major attack by terrorists? Are you worried that the next attack will involve weapons of mass destruction that could actually trigger doomsday? Are you scared because you’re not prepared to face death? Do you have a fail-safe escape plan? Are you sure it’ll work?

Have you heard about the man who worried so much about a terrorist attack, that he died of a heart attack? Don’t let that happen to you. If the USA’s doomsday plan isn’t fail-safe, yours won’t be either – unless it’s designed by the best in the life-saving business. Who would that be? God!

“What’s God’s plan?” you ask. It’s in the Bible – a fail-safe plan to save you from everlasting destruction. It begins with these words: “God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (Jn. 3:16). You can be part of God’s fail-safe plan if you confess that you’re a sinner who can’t save yourself, and then trust Jesus as the only one who can. We can tell you how! Do it now and you’ll have a doomsday plan that’s fail-safe. God guarantees it.
