Bon Voyage!
What We All Want To Hear:
“Bon Voyage!”
Are you planning your summer vacation? Maybe you have had it planned since last year, have made all the reservations, travel arrangements and listed all the things you need to bring.
Have you also planned on dying during your trip? “No,” you say. No one ever does, and even though the thought is morose, the fact remains that many people do perish during their holiday vacations – from car crashes, falls, drownings, homicides, even tsunamis. As much as we’d like to think otherwise, it is not uncommon for tourists to die.
We never plan on dying, and yet it is inevitable for each of us. The Bible says that “death came to all men, because all sinned” (Rom. 5:12 NIV). Some say, “There’s nothing after death.” But the Bible indicates that there is – either heaven or hell – and it says, “Prepare to meet your God” (Amos 4:12). If this sounds like bad news, read on for the good news.
Jesus Christ has already met God on our behalf and has prepared the way for us to go to heaven by taking our judgment for sin upon Himself. He has made the way open for all who simply believe in Him. The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (Jn. 3:16).
We can prepare to meet God through His Son and have a “bon voyage” (good trip) to heaven when the time comes. Or, as Jesus said, we can end up being “cast out into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Mt. 8:12). The choice is ours!
