Discover Greater Treasures
November 2015 – Grace & Truth Magazine
Disover Greater Treasures
The topic of the offerings given in the first several chapters of the Old Testament book of Leviticus can seem rather overwhelming to many today. It is hard to grasp points related to something we do not practice. These instructions were specifically given to Moses for the nation of Israel. According to Ezekiel, such offerings will again take place during the millennium.
As with all scriptural things of old, these instructions were written for our learning (Rom. 15:4). They answer to the words expressed through Peter to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18 NASB), for we see in the offerings blessed points regarding the Lord in both His person and work. We discover afresh that only He could do what He did!
The Feature articles in this edition seek to explain various aspects of the offerings. To grasp what is being expressed, one may need to read slowly and ponder the details. In the middle of this issue you will find a simple chart that goes along with the article following it. However, it may be useful to refer to the chart when reading the other articles as well.
One Scripture that came to mind while preparing this magazine was Hebrews 10:1-13: “For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near ... For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, ‘Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared for Me; ...’ Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of Me) to do Your will, O God.’ ... but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.”
May we seek to discover greater treasures about our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our love will grow day by day as we learn more about Him. We will even become more like our Lord, doing God’s will to a fuller extent and giving glory to Him!
