Positives In Discouragement
It is very easy to become discouraged; at least I find that for myself. We begin asking questions like “Why me? and “How come?” In these times we need to refocus our eyes onto the Lord, seeking an answer and help from Him. He alone is our sure resource in every need and situation.
If we believers seek to be faithful to the Lord, the struggles we experience can be used of Him for much blessing and for His glory. For example, if despite our weaknesses and failures we surrender to Him, we will move in the direction of righteousness and holiness (Rom. 6:19). We can recognize the Spirit’s work and intercession during our weak times (8:26). Our trials may help us to see other people’s struggles and give us the opportunity to bear some of their burden (15:1). Being faithful even through many difficult times can be a testimony to others and bring glory to our God and Father (2 Cor. 11:23-31). Trials tend to bring us low; they humble us but also may cause us to have a greater appreciation of His power and grace (12:7-10). What could be surprising is, even when we feel that which discourages, we may be given the opportunity to share the gospel with unbelievers (Gal. 4:13). In a world of what are often called “negatives,” we have the great privilege to look positively at things when our own faith and obedience are maintained.
When we struggle, we do not have to feel alone in it. The Lord, who is now in heaven, sympathizes with us, having gone through the fullest extent of suffering. He is able to help us (Heb. 4:14-16). In Him there is no weakness or failure, as we find in ourselves or may see in others. Instead, He is “the Son who has been perfected forever” (7:28 NKJV). “He is … able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them” (v.25).
Have you come to the Lord Jesus for salvation? The opportunity is still open. He died on the cross for you, not only to take away your sins and judgment, but also to allow you to have a relationship with God as Father and us as sons (Gal. 4:4-7). It is a relationship filled with the greatest love (1 Jn. 3:1). Isn’t that what you desire, even in your struggles now? Will you come to Him today?
