What’s Wrong With Halloween?
Have you ever noticed how death is glorified at Halloween time? And not just physical death, but spiritual death as well. Many costumes and lawn ornaments are representations of “the living dead.” Why do we think it’s cute to have little children dressed up as various ghoulish beings?
This death is our enemy, and, thank God, we Christians will never see it. Jesus said, “If anyone keeps My word, he shall never see death” (Jn. 8:51 nkjv). Paul has written, “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Rom. 8:2). We have been made free from the law of sin and death.
Paul also wrote that “God ... delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us” (2 Cor. 1:10). Death is an awful thing to experience, and yet many romanticize it during the Halloween season.
It was what Christ experienced for us on the cross when, being separated from the Father, He screamed, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Mk. 15:34). Surely, in the torments of hell, people will realize too late what this death really means.

Death cannot keep his prey – Jesus my Savior!
He tore the bars away – Jesus my Lord!
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes;
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose! – R. Lowry
