These Testify About Christ
Raymond K. Campbell, a respected Bible teacher who wrote regularly for the Grace & Truth Magazine, presented these thoughts to our readers many years ago:
It is very important that we ever bear in mind when reading our Bibles that the Lord Jesus Christ is its leading theme and foremost subject. We should, therefore, always seek to find something of Himself whenever we read its holy pages.
The Holy Spirit, who inspired every page and every word and who ever delights in glorifying Christ and in showing Him to man, has given us something of Him in type, shadow or substance on practically every page of this divine Book. The Lord Jesus, the Messiah, is the constant object of the Holy Ghost [Spirit] where He speaks of any object or office. If it be a great priest, prophet or king; if it be a savior, conqueror or judge, the one whom the Holy Spirit contemplates from beginning to end is Christ. And we who love Him should have quick discernment in the fear of the Lord to see Christ everywhere throughout Scripture.
Ultimately speaking of Christ, we read in Isaiah 42:1: “Behold My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights” (NASB). Matthew records, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased” – expressed by the voice out of heaven (3:17) and likewise out of the cloud (17:5). Both the Old and New Testaments are centered on Him. The Lord Jesus Christ is the grandest subject of all!
Although we limit our study in the Feature articles of this edition to what are called the “messianic psalms,” we hope you will not only learn new things about the Christ, but will also be encouraged to watch for more about Him as you read other portions of Scripture. The Lord Himself declared, “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me” (Jn. 5:39). May He bless His word to your heart.
