Put The “Plus” In Your Diet
Put The “Plus” In Your Diet!
One thousand Sudanese pounds will buy you some bread. Everyone in Sudan knows that. You can choose from various types. There are long, thin breads sold from the back of Toyota box vans. There are large round breads in plastic bags sold from roadside wooden tables. Different shops offer more variety, some even sell sliced loaves for Brits like me to feel more at home!
God made us to eat bread. Daily bread is something Jesus taught us to ask for when we pray: “Our Father in heaven ... give us today our daily bread” (Mt. 6:9,11 NIV). Twice He miraculously shared the little bread He had with thousands of people (Mt. 14:13-21; 15:32-39). And at no cost! Some began following Him, expecting to be fed like that everyday. Even today I suspect some folks attend church gatherings as much for the “free lunch” as to learn something.
But those people who followed Jesus heard Him say that there is more to life than bread: “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Bread will feed your body, but only the Word of God will feed your spirit. People are not fully alive if they eat only physical bread.
Those who live as Christians think about God’s Word, the Bible, in their everyday lives. As they chew it over in their minds it releases spiritual vitamins, as evidenced by their healthy life choices.
When you next see a chap on his bicycle, with a big tray laden with bread, wobbling his way to the sales pitch, remember this: people are designed by their Creator to live on daily bread – plus. This “plus” is the much healthier, longer lasting, more refreshing and eternally significant “every word ... of God.”
Not everybody I see gives evidence of including the “plus” in their diet. What about you? Would you like eternal life through the living Word of God? You can have it today! We can tell you how.
